Last week we gave a few tips for people who sleep on their side. This week the focus is people who sleep on their back. In what position do you sleep?
1. Place your head on the pillow and your shoulders on the mattress
Start with a good beginning. Your pillow should support your head and neck, not your shoulders. Your shoulders should rest on the mattress, with the edge of the pillow just brushing the tops of your shoulders.
2. Your head should not be tilted forwards or backwards when laying on the pillow
When you sleep do you feel like you're looking at your toes or is your chin in the air? Neither position is not good for your spine or neck. When using a buckwheat pillow you can add or remove buckwheat hulls to make your pillow just the right height for you.
3. Support the curvature of your neck
We humans are full of curves. The curves of your head and neck are unique to you and should be properly supported when sleeping. Buckwheat pillows allow you to move the buckwheat hulls around to cradle your head and neck.
4. A pillow under your thighs can help straighten and support the spine
Supporting your whole body while sleeping is important. Placing a pillow under your thighs when sleeping on your back will help straighten and reduce stress on your spine. (I find this particularly helpful when sleeping away from home in an uncomfortable bed.)
